OVER-FISHING NOT BEING TACKLED BY GOVERNMENT - MILLER

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 10th Oct 2003

The Government has failed to address the pressing issues that over-fishing has produced, Baroness (Sue) Miller, Liberal Democrat DEFRA Spokesperson in the House of Lords, will say today.

Baroness Miller will attack the Government for its lack of action on fishing in today's debate on the EU Committee Report on the Common Fisheries Policy saying:

"The report highlights in the strongest terms the Government's total failure to address the pressing issues that over-fishing has produced.

"A sustainable fisheries policy is needed. It is appalling but unfortunately unsurprising that the cross party Lords Committee thinks the Government has done far too little. This must change."
