ENERGY EFFICIENCY SCHEME LONG OVERDUE - STUNELL1.42.43pm UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 24th Nov 2003 The Government's pilot scheme to improve energy efficiency, announced today, is a long overdue step, according to Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy Minister, Andrew Stunell MP. The scheme to scrap the 28-day rule in favour of longer contracts that include commitments by energy companies to provide energy efficient products, will affect around 1 million customers. Mr Stunell said: "This is a very welcome, but long overdue, step that will benefit consumers, companies and the environment. "But it needs to be linked to the provision for 2-way meters to be installed when companies replace meters in the home, making ultra-high efficient gas central heating possible."
