Energy price hike shows need for conservation - Stunell

10.24.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Mon 8th Dec 2003

Commenting on reports that British Gas is to raise its prices by 5.9% in the new year, Andrew Stunell MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Energy Minister, said:

"This is an inevitable consequence of the low price regime the Government has supported.

"Consumers are now going to see steep rises in energy prices and this underlines the need for much better conservation and efficiency in the use of energy.

"The Energy Bill completely fails to address this point and we shall be fighting to get it included."
