Traffic Bill tackles congestion symptonms not causes - Thurso

12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 11th Dec 2003

John Thurso MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Secretary, has cautiously welcomed the Government's Traffic Management Bill, published today (Friday 12th December), but warns that the reality may be an over-centrist approach.

He said:

"The Government has introduced a number of interesting ideas, but is still trying to dictate from the centre.

"Traffic tsars and jam busters will only address the symptoms, not the disease. The causes of congestion must be tackled at source."
