Green Liberal Democrats: "Liberal Democrats believe that by helping the environment, we can help our own pockets, our families, our communities and our world."

Public will not be fooled by Toxic Tories' jump on green bandwagon - Baker

Michael Howard - Conservative (Tory) leader

Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, has today attacked Michael Howard for "attempting to jump on the green bandwagon".

Commenting on Mr Howard's speech to the Environment Forum today, Mr Baker said:

"Michael Howard is desperately attempting to jump on the green bandwagon, and has missed his footing.

"Mr Howard's only point seems to be his assertion that a long time ago his government had a better record than Labour.

"But on the environment, the Tories have zero ambition and are only concerned to make political gain.

"Michael Howard's record on the environment shows he truly is the Toxic Tory. In his time as Environment Secretary he gave an amnesty to water companies polluting rivers and attempted to repeal European environmental legislation.

"The public will not be fooled by this token tick-box annual speech by Mr Howard when his record on the environment is so poor."
