Commenting on the decision by BAA to end free parking for MPs at its airports, Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, said:

"I welcome BAA's decision to withdraw this facility for Members of Parliament. There are very good public transport links to Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.

"To give MPs free parking at these airports is not only an unfair perk but sends the wrong message that those in Parliament should use their cars to get to airports when clearly they ought to be using the railways.

"It is now time to consider workplace parking charges for MPs who still get free parking at the House of Commons while, across the road, everyone else pays over £20 a day to use public car parks."
