UN climate talks must lead to real targets

Norman Baker MP

As UN talks in Montreal on climate change reach their final crucial phase, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker MP said:

"We can only hope that the Montreal negotiations end in success. But the omens are not good. It is one thing for leading nations to agree that something needs to be done. It is quite another for them to actually commit themselves to the action that is required.

"We need a system of mandatory, enforceable national targets, not just a stream of wishy-washy aspirations. Anything less would mean that climate change is simply not taken seriously. That would be a disaster."
